Marakissa Wetlands & Woodland
Marakissa is one of southern Gambia’s most rewarding birdwatching areas, combining seasonal wetlands, rice fields, open woodland and village-edge habitat. Its mix of water and mature trees attracts an impressive range of resident birds and seasonal visitors, making every trip different.
Birdwatching at Marakissa can produce kingfishers, bee-eaters, rollers, herons, raptors, finches and woodland specialities. The wetlands are especially productive when water levels are favourable, while the surrounding tracks and trees offer excellent opportunities for relaxed observation and photography.
