3-day Tendaba & Georgetown itinerary
Three days and two nights inland, with one night at Tendaba and one night at Georgetown (Janjanbureh). The main targets are Egyptian Plover and Red-throated Bee-eater.
Day 1: the coast to Tendaba
Collection from your hotel, then the drive inland with birding stops on the way. The night is at Tendaba on the River Gambia, where the first of the two boat trips explores the mangrove creeks.
Day 2: Tendaba to Georgetown
Travel upriver towards Georgetown. Egyptian Plover is normally seen on this stretch, and the route stops at the Kaur wetlands to look for it. The night is at Georgetown, on Janjanbureh island.
Day 3: bee-eaters and the return to the coast
At Georgetown the second boat trip searches the river for African Finfoot. The Red-throated Bee-eaters are about 18 km from Georgetown, near Bansang. The tour then drives back to the coast and returns you to your hotel.
The order of stops and boat trips may change with weather, river conditions and recent sightings.
